Valvoline is the oldest manufacturer of motor oils. From 1950 to 2016, it was owned by Ashland Inc. The company was founded by Dr. John Ellis, who in 1866 developed a formula for lubricating oil based on crude oil. In 1873, the oil was registered under the name “Valvoline” in Binghamton.
