Aeroflot is Russia’s largest airline and one of the world’s oldest, having been founded in 1923. Throughout its history, the company has won the Skytrax World Airline Awards for Best Airline in Eastern Europe nine times. In 2021, Aeroflot carried 21.4 million passengers on a fleet of 356 aircraft. The Russian government provides substantial support to the company, including an allocation of 175 billion rubles in 2023 to support aircraft leasing. The company is also actively pursuing import substitution; in September 2022, Aeroflot and the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) signed an agreement for the delivery of 339 aircraft.
